The Association of Lutheran Mission Agencies (ALMA) convened for its annual conference at the Crowne Plaza St. Louis Airport Hotel January 28-29, 2016. The conference theme "Prepared to Serve" was reinforced through keynote speakers, breakout sessions, networking, and fellowshipping by conference attendees.

attendees
The keynote speakers included Rev. Dr. Robert Newton (CA-NV-HI District President), Rev. Greg Seltz (Lutheran Hour Ministries), and Rev. Dien Taylor (Redeemer Lutheran, The Bronx, NY). Dr. Newton spoke on "Gifts for the Missionary Age," encouraging attendees that Jesus Christ is the primary, heavenly gift and every believer has been given the Holy Spirit, through Baptism, to serve in the Office of Proclamation. Rev. Seltz, in "Christian Confidence when Worldviews Collide," exhorted attendees to have Christ-confidence in the midst of our spiritual and cultural differences, so that people can be drawn to the Gospel. Rev. Taylor in "Body Building" inspired attendees to be strengthened by Word and Sacraments for the sake of catechizing the lost and extending God's kingdom on earth. Keynote sessions were digitally recorded and are available for viewing.

Rev. John Fale
Attendees also were equipped in breakout sessions presented by Rev. John Fale (Office of International Mission), Rev. Steve Schave (Office of National Mission), Abigail Miller (Wheat Ridge Ministries), Sarah Buek (Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis), Sarah Guldalian (Development & Leadership Coaching), Deaconess Lorraine Roach (ALMA Director), and Rev. Mark Frith (Lutheran Hour Ministries). Greetings were shared by the conference co-sponsors: LCMS Office of National Missions, Insurance Consultants International, and Lutheran Hour Ministries. Rev. Dr. Jim Tino (Global Lutheran Outreach) led the Bible study "Serving in Weakness" based on 2 Corinthians 4. Attendees also participated in a mission excursion to learn about ministry to refugees and immigrants hosted by Christian Friends of New Americans.

This year, ALMA is thankful for the service of Chris Myers as First Vice President and Carly Hatcher as Second Vice President. ALMA is pleased to introduce Deaconess Lorraine Roach as ALMA's Director to conference attendees. ALMA attendees elected new board members for 2016.
